Songmont

Founded in 2013, Songmont began with an emerald tote that founder Fu Song designed and her mother sewed by hand. The bags are built around an Eastern landscape aesthetic — mountains, pines, hand-woven textures — in full-grain cowhide that gains a patina with use, with part of the handwork done by a team of veteran craftswomen in Shanxi. Its Song basket bag, kept soft yet standing by kite-inspired leather side panels, has become a modern classic; other series draw on moon phases, temple eaves and old travel satchels. The shops are worth a visit in their own right — each is designed around a local landscape, from a bamboo valley in Chengdu to a reef cave in Qingdao. In Shanghai, the flagship sits on Huaihai Middle Road. Prices sit in the 1000–4000 RMB range.
